Brent Bell | Vice President of Recycling, Waste Management
As vice president of recycling for Waste Management, Brent Bell has responsibility for recycling operations and the global marketing of recycled materials. He reports to John Morris, executive vice president and chief operating officer. Bell started at the company in 1998 at the corporate offices after the merger with USA Waste. He began his waste career over twenty years ago with USA Waste in the financial reporting group and has held numerous recycling positions including business partner and director of business development. Bell has a Bachelor of Business Administration degree in Accounting from Stephen F Austin State University in Nacogdoches, Texas.
Tim Carey | Vice President, Sustainability and Recycling, PepsiCo Beverages
Tim Carey is the Vice President for Sustainability and Recycling at PepsiCo Beverages in North America where he is responsible for developing and implementing the sustainability vision and strategy for beverage businesses. Tim co-founded and launched PepsiCo's US consumer recycling, renewable energy, and sustainable fertilizer programs. He is a member of the Board of Directors for Keep America Beautiful and The Sustainability Consortium.
Ayrel Clark-Proffitt | Sustainability Engagement, University of Utah
In her role, Ayrel develops and implements initiatives that promote a culture of environmental, social, and financial sustainability among the campus community. She also connects with various groups and departments across campus to educate and expand sustainable behaviors.
Chris Fox | Vice President, Corporate Social Responsibility, HanesBrands
Christopher C. (Chris) Fox has led global corporate social responsibility at HanesBrands since 2007. He is responsible for developing and overseeing the company's comprehensive, global corporate responsibility strategy, including operational policies and internal and external programs. His areas of focus include HanesBrands' ethics, factory compliance, product safety, philanthropy, environmental sustainability, and diversity and inclusion programs. Fox joined HanesBrands in 1999 and has held a number of roles within the organization's legal function, including representing the supply chain and Asia business development teams. As part of his HanesBrands' roles, Fox has worked and traveled extensively in Asia, Latin America, the Caribbean, Australia and Africa. Fox earned a bachelor of arts degree from the College of William and Mary in 1989, and MBA and J.D. degrees from Wake Forest University in 1993. He serves on the board of directors of Goodwill Industries of Northwest North Carolina and the United Way of Forsyth County.
Kelsey Gaude | Program Manager, Facilities Management, Zero Waste, Arizona State University
Kelsey Gaude is a Program Manager in the Facilities Maintenance and Management Department, Zero Waste, at Arizona State University. Her role at ASU is primarily focused on large scale zero waste events with Sun Devil Athletics and ASU Residential Life. Kelsey has a B.A. in Anthropology from Appalachian State University and a M.A. in Sustainability from Wake Forest University. She is an AmeriCorps alumni that got her start in her sustainability career by working for a Fortune 500 company on accessing their zero waste initiative among their manufacturing facilities.
Rick George | Athletic Director, University of Colorado Boulder
Rick George was named athletic director at the University of Colorado on July 17, 2013, returning to Boulder where he helped play a role in the school's first and only national championship in football some 23 years earlier. George's accomplishments in his first 7 years are many but none more significant than shepherding through a $156 million Athletic Complex Expansion from creation through fruition. Once green-lighted, he spearheaded the most successful fundraising campaign in athletic department history, raising over $100 million for the project. By the end of his second year, George implemented the department's first-ever comprehensive strategic plan, which mapped CU's immediate and long range purpose and goals. George came to Colorado from the Texas Rangers baseball club of the American League, where he was named chief operating officer on October 5, 2010 with a promotion to president of business operations in February 2013. In his time with the Rangers, the team made the World Series twice under his leadership. ▾
Prior to joining the Rangers, George served as executive vice president and chief of operations for the PGA TOUR for two-and-a-half years. While with the TOUR, he worked with the corporate marketing department in renewing sponsorships and creating new events. He also oversaw the Tournament Business Affairs division that worked with Tournaments to increase tournament revenue. He also worked for the PGA TOUR as president of the Champions Tour from 2003-08, and as the executive vice president for championship management his last three years there. His major accomplishments included increasing revenues and sponsorships and the development of strategic plans, the latter including a vision and mission statement as well as core values. From 1998-2003, George served as President and CEO of the Fore!Kids Foundation, a 501(c)(3) organization that raised money for children's charities via golf-related events, where he led rebranding and organizational efforts that resulted in increases in charitable giving to the Foundation. At the collegiate level, George worked in three major conferences (Big Ten, Big 8, Southeastern) in football operations, beginning with his alma mater, the University of Illinois, as football recruiting coordinator (1983-87).
Mark Horvath | Founder, Invisible People
Mark Horvath has broken the mold. He's not doing what makes sense. He's not doing something that even pays the bills. He is living out his passion and doing what burns deep inside of him. Mark has developed Invisible People to give a face and voice to homelessness, something he knows all too well since he once lived among them. His work is extremely innovative and his ingenious use of social media for storytelling is a model for both the corporate and not-for-profit worlds. After an extended period of unemployment and losing his house to foreclosure, Mark grabbed his camera and started to use social media to help tell the stories of people experiencing homelessness. With only a $45 start-up budget and lots of tenacity, Mark has used social media to reach a different stakeholder and change how people perceive a very serious social crisis that's mostly ignored. ▾
Mark regularly works on cause campaigns with major brands like Hanes, Ford, and Virgin Mobile, and has consulted for the City of Los Angeles, Los Angeles County, Los Angeles Police Department, Utah, the City of San Francisco, USC Annenberg School for Communication & Journalism, and more. In addition, Mark has served as a guest lecturer at educational institutions across the globe including UCLA, USC, NYU, and Syracuse University. In 2018, The Nonprofit Times included Mark in their 2018 Power & Influence Top 50 nonprofit executives.
Dave Newport | Director, Environmental Center at the University of Colorado at Boulder
Dave launched the first US college sports sustainability activation with corporate partnership for the Florida Gators when he was UF's Director of Sustainability in 2002. Later he became Director of the University of Colorado Boulder Environmental Center and founded the nation's first comprehensive NCAA Division 1 sports sustainability program, Ralphie's Green Stampede. He has helped develop fan engagement partnerships with BASF, Pepsi, Wells Fargo, WhiteWave Foods, The Pantry, Eco-Products, and UPS etc aimed at influencing fans' behavior toward sustainability at home, work and play. Dave is also Secretary of the Green Sports Alliance Board of Directors, former Board Secretary of the Association for Advancement of Sustainability in Higher Education, an award winning publisher and editor, and a former elected county commission board chairman.
Danny Quintana | President, Saving Oceans Non-Profit Organization
Danny Quintana is the president and founder of Global High Seas Marine Preserve, a non-profit organization and author of Space and Ocean Exploration: The Alternative to the Military-Industrial Complex. University of Utah graduate in political science and from the law school with a J.D. in law. He is a member of the Mars Society and was a Rockefeller Minority Intern when he was in college. Mr. Quintana is committed to spending the next 20 years to create a Global High Seas Marine Preserve. He is working on increasing membership, partnering with other environmental organizations and on legislation.
Frank Vasquez | Director of Corporate Social Responsibility, HanesBrands
Frank is the Director of Corporate Social Responsibility for Hanesbrands Inc. He received his B.S. in Systems Design Engineering from ITESM (Monterrey Technological Institute) In Monterrey, Mexico. He started his career with Hanes (Sara Lee at the time) 24 years ago as an engineer at the Dominican Republic operations. In 2003 he was moved to the corporate headquarters to lead the Underwear operations in the Safety and Environmental areas. In 2006 when Hanes spun from Sara Lee, Frank was part of the team that started the Corporate Social Responsibility for the new company. As global director of CSR frank leads the company initiatives in Ethics, compliance sustainability and community relations. Since 2010 he has globally led Hanes' community relations flagship program Green for Good with the implementation of life changing programs in the areas health, environmental sustainability and education in the communities where Hanes is located around the globe. ▾
He is leading programs with direct impact in different community like the surgery program for kids in need in the Dominican Republic where doctors from the US have been able to operate over 1,200 kids and adults. In Central America and Asia he has help with the company's involvement in the educational coordinating the sponsorship of 22 schools impacting over 5,000 kids. In Winston Salem where he resides he is actively involved with the Hispanic League sitting on their education committee working with youngster to stay in school. As mentioned he currently resides in Winston Salem, North Carolina where Hanes headquarters are located.
Chip Wood | Director of Strategic Partnerships, Center for Resource Solutions
Chip Wood is CRS's Director, Strategic Partnerships. He brings over 15 years' experience serving environmentally and socially responsible companies with market strategy, brand growth, business development, and client management. He manages Green-e program outreach and Standards development and presents at energy conferences. He has served in sustainability leadership roles at leading companies in the food, technology and media sectors, and completed post-graduate study at U.C. Berkeley and Golden Gate University and graduated with a B.A. Communications from University of Pennsylvania.
